about

vision

Community is solidarity with our fellow human beings, which is important for us to survive in society, and circulation is the relationship with others and other species that is necessary for us to coexist in an ecosystem. Through design, studioTRUE aims to create a new community and circulations to survive in a complex and diverse society.

Creating Community and Circulations to Survive Society

mission

In order to overcome the various problems of our society, we create new connections of people or things by implementing alternative places and systems. studioTRUE explores and designs these connections on a wide range of scales, including community development, publishing, event organization, and composting.

We design a network
of people and things that emerge from alternative places and systems on a scale ranging from urbanism to the earth.

approaches

We value the things and people we encounter by chance in our daily lives, as well as the things and places around us. We believe that by designing with contingency and embodiment, we can create actions that face the reality of society.

Contingency and Embodiment

approaches

We value the continuity of something small, and the nurturing of that something. We do not aim to create large changes at once, but rather believe that by working on a continuous basis, we can create actions that are appropriate to the moment.

Small but Continuous

approaches

We value conducting research while understanding the qualitative relationship between things, recording the raw information and processes, and accumulating this information. We believe that actions based on research can be generated by tracing back through the archive.

Research and Archive

actions

We design new resource circulation to address environmental issues and manufacture products within this circulation. We do not stop at mere manufacturing, but rather consider the materials used and their disposal as we work. By empowering not only the individual but also the group, we design the mechanism that supports the new circulation.

Circular Design

actions

We are engaged in a wide range of architectural and urban design activities in order to face any problems that exist in the community and to overcome them together with people. We develop activities together with citizens, companies, and governments to form and manage communities. To make these activities sustainable, we approach urban development and policy.

Architecture and Urbanism

actions

We support people's activities through publication. We handle everything from planning to editing, and from graphic design to printing to complete the product. We also handle a wide range of media, from web media to visual media, not limited to printed matter.

Publication

actions

We create new actions in a complex society through collaboration with a diverse range of people. We reorganize all things and contemplate the ideal society of the future, crossing geographical scales from Tokyo to the world, and academic scales from art to society.

This is a project Rei worked on as a master’s student. Together with local residents, she created a compost in a super-local community garden in the Poblenou district of Barcelona. As an extension of her undergraduate project, she explored urban design using composting. In particular, she approached a community garden near a school and collaborated […]

A stadium in Rifu-cho is one of the sites for the 2020 Olympic games. However, the street, near the station which is connected to the stadium, is not attractive. We designed this food stall as a temporary tool for activating the local area. We had to make it as cheap as possible due to the […]

This project was Rei’s graduation project. She researched convenience stores as urban infrastructure and the actual state of food waste there through her part-time work at a convenience store, and designed a proposal based on the research. The impetus for this project came from seeing expired sandwiches being sold in a supermarket. in Italy She […]

I rethought the relationship between architecture and capital. I focused on the fact that homeless people were making their house without money and capital. Then, I researched how to make the house like homeless and how to live in urban space like them. I had learned a lot from Mr. Kato who lived by river […]
